HISTORY
The World Superbike Championship, abbreviated SBK, has been held since 1988 and it is also known as the World Superbike Championship (WSBK).
It represents the most important championship for motorbikes derived from series production, namely motorcycles normally built for road circulation.
The format of its races and the exciting Tissot Superpole, in each of the 14 annual events, make the challenge for both titles (Riders and Manufacturers) a very fun show for all fans, spectators and people who follow the races from home.
More than 100 riders participate in the various classes, representing 22 countries.
In fact, the SBK calendar is accompanied by those of two further classes: the World Supersport Championship (SSP), which follows all the European and international stages (except Laguna Seca, in California), and the World Supersport 300 Championship (SSP300), which follows the European stages of the calendar plus, starting from the 2019 season, the one of the Losail circuit, in Qatar.
With a few but spot-on changes introduced over the course of its seasons, the World Superbike Championship has grown year by year thanks to the stability of its regulations.

Superbike races have attracted the great world motorcycle manufacturers (Ducati, Honda, Aprilia, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, BMW) because they allow the promotion of their products.
For this reason, in the Anglo-Saxon countries the motto is: “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday”.
AKA The King, historically considered king of the category is the British Carl Fogarty, winner of the world title four times (1994, 1995, 1998, 1999), always riding a Ducati, later joined by his compatriot Jonathan Rea, four times world champion among the production derivatives (consecutively from 2015 to 2018), riding a Kawasaki.
Other riders who have made the history of this championship, achieving important results, are: Doug Polen, Troy Corser, Scott Russell, Tom Sykes, Aaron Slight, John Kocinski, Troy Bayliss, Noriyuki Haga, Colin Edwards, James Toseland, Jonathan Rea and Max Biaggi. Among these, only two riders have also won a title in the World Championship: Kocinski and Biaggi.
In Italy, the World Superbike Championship is currently broadcast by Sky, which acquired the rights in 2019 and also broadcasts it unencrypted on the TV8 channel.
